Innovation Project

In recent years, rising summer temperatures and continuous droughts have transformed wildfires from a rare occurrence into a critical environmental threat across the UK. These wildfires now pose danger to regions such as Scotland, Wales and areas in Kent such as Dartford Heath. Around 90% of wildfires are caused by humans such as escaping embers or discarded ashes. As wildfires increase, spreading dangerously across the globe, our robot focuses on combatting fires and protecting vulnerable land. Wildfires are becoming more and more of a frequent occurrence in Great Britain.

Protecting the community

Traditional fire engines often can’t maneuver around wildfires quickly and safely. Our robot solves this problem. Firefighters can drive it remotely, meaning no one needs to be anywhere near the fire, keeping everyone safe. Quickly responding to wildfires also prevents more damage, potentially saving more animals and their habitats.

Keeping it practical

Our robot has a 5 meter width span when fully unfolded. The design includes 2 extendable arms on either side of the drivetrain made up of 3 sections each so the arms extend out neatly and collapse back in, taking up minimal space in a fire engine.

How it works

The expansion mechanism of the arms are powered by servos, allowing our robot to extend and prepare itself quickly in response to an emergency wildfire. Attached to each arm are many spade plow blades that will be used to create the fire breaks, digging into the ground and removing any fuel for the wildfire.
